I love autumn, the season. I love the colors-the rich maroon, red, rust, yellow, brown, dark green on the trees set against a beautiful blue sky interspersed with fluffy white clouds. It’s as if nature is putting up a show before it rests in winter.
In Hinduism, life is divided into phases of approx.25 years each, give or take a few-
Brahmacharya-student-the growing up years with study and learning a craft
Grihastha- householder-getting married, having a family, leading a social life
Vanaprastha-forestdweller-the retirement stage, a transition from building a life to advising the next generation
Sanyasa-renunciate-giving up material desires, detachment, focused on spirituality
Keeping the above in mind I am in the third stage of my life, my autumn years. I want to lead a healthy, happy life. A life in which the health span is equal to the lifespan. Research shows that the effort we put into our health in our 50s and 60s can let us have more functional 70s and 80s.
I am looking forward towards learning to do the right and the best thing by my body, mind and spirit so I can enjoy the color and the richness of the experiences in my autumn years.
And hence, this blog. It will be a document of my journey, and you are most welcome to come along!
