A time for reflection.

Today was the first day I felt a change from the hot summer to a cooler autumn. I went for my morning walk and there was a definite chill in the air. The sky was blue, sprinkled with splashes of white clouds, the leaves were showing just a hint of yellow, some of the other walkers had their light sweats on.

I love this season. It seems like a time for renewal, a remnant of the days when I followed the school schedule. Mid-august, school started with new classes, new teachers, new books and a new routine.

After a hectic, activity filled summer, it’s the time to slow down, reflect upon the happy times spent with the family and start planning for the next phase of the year.

My summer has been busy. So much happened, so much to be thankful for. And I was actually able to be true to my WOTY-Move.

I made 1000 paper cranes, a Senbazuru. It was a sneaky tactic to prevent my daughter from spending all her time on the screen. Of course I failed, she made more cranes than me while watching movies late into the night on her computer.

We painted a bedroom, which had been a bright lime green color-my older daughter’s one time favorite. I finally got the motivation to paint it a bland cream color. It looks better.

We went to the Van Gogh Immersive Art Exhibition. That was really fun. So much intense deep color!

We made an effort to see the full moons in July, August and September. These were at their biggest, brightest best.

I tried a couple of new to me recipes-garbanzo beans, a pound cake. They turned out to be relatively good.

We visited with some family, spent some time with the newest, littlest member of the family.

We ended the summer with a trip to Las Vegas to celebrate my daughters’ birthdays. That was hectic but very enjoyable. I was just amazed at the crowds. I faced one of my fears by going up on the ferris/observation wheel, the second highest in the country.

But because I was moving so much, the blog fell by the wayside.

However, now I am back, and hopefully I will be more regular with my posts.

I had started this blog to serve as a place where I could gather information about how to be healthy and happy in this new phase of my life. After collecting the latest recommendations, I would sift through them and choose the simplest ones which could help me achieve my goals.

Somehow, I lost sight of that plan. Between the traveling and the hosting of houseguests, my own routine took a hit. Looking back, I feel the actions for good health and happiness should be so ingrained in the day so as to seem mindless. Just like brushing ones teeth-you shouldn’t even have to think about it.

I am coming up with a daily to-do list of some basic stuff which I will do for my good health. I try to keep in my mind that the actions I take today will benefit me tomorrow.

Sometimes it seems overwhelming, all this focus on good health, habits, etc, but how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.

This post was written in August. I was having trouble putting up the photos. Which meant I delayed the post a whole two months. Not anymore, photos or not, here it is. The photos will happen, eventually, in November, when my daughter can help me during Thanksgiving break.
